This spring, the hairstyles that are sweeping the nation are all about versatility. One the largest trends right now are buns.
Buns of all types are a main focus not only on the runway but also in salon collections everywhere. The "messy bun" has been perfected, ladies! Any of you ever throw your hair up into a messy bun and at the end of the day go to take out your hair band and uh, let's say you don't know where to start. Well, you'll no longer have to deal with crazy tangles! For the 'messy bun' look without the mess, lightly tease hair all over. Then, put hair into a hair ponytail. Follow with taking sections of hair from the ponytail and looping it into the shape of a bun. (The key is to not make it perfect.) Pin each section slightly wrapping it around until it is in the shape of a sock bun and voila! The perfect messy bun!
Another trend for spring is low ponytails. Everyone wears high ponytails but that statement look is out and it is all about the lose, undone look. Lucky for you ladies, these looks are much easier and can be done without taking up the extra time you could be sleeping in the morning: the basic loose ponytail. If you are looking for some body, adding some texture will add more to basic styles. To towel dried hair, add a texturizing sea salt spray all over and scrunch with hands. ( My favorite is Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing spray). Once hair is dry, collect all hair loosely to the back of the neck and secure with a hair tie. For a little pizazz, add an embellished barette instead.
The other hairstyle is a hybrid of both the low ponytail and the bun. Pull all hair to the nape (where your head and neck meet). Twist ponytail until it naturally wants to coil then wrap into a bun but leave the ends out. Pin with a few bobby pins and tease ends for texture if desired.
For Men, hairstyles are not something that change every season because they are more like improved versions of the same thing. A good men's hairstyle currently include: shorter sides, and much longer on top, fohawk style (without the durastic length difference) and the classic side part sleek look.
First cut: The best length will always differ for each person depending on their face and head shape, but generally this look will look good on just about any man. Those with loose curls or wave with this cut will create an edgy look. To style, leave natural or add matte texturizing putty for control.
Second cut: I'm sure you have all seen, and heard about the 'fohawk' for a year or so now but the key is to not have dramatic length difference between the sides, top and longer center (fohawk). Ask your stylist to create a gradual fohawk and I guarantee you'll look more stylist and less 'average'. To style add a dab of texturizing taffy and messily style with fingers.
Third cut: This cut is for those who are striving for a classy, sophisticated look, that are willing to have a bit of length. Men who want this look can still have the sides clean cut but must grow out the top a considerable bit. Simply part and comb over to desired side. For a sleek look, add a dab of pomade first and style. For a more messy look, add texturizing taffy and use fingers to style instead of a comb.
